Windows 7 has become the most popular OS in the world

Windows 7 has finally surpassed by his popularity, "big sister" Windows XP, which has a dominant position on the market for eleven years. The fact that Windows 7 has become the most popular operating system in the world, shows the August report research firm Net Applications. After "seven" in XP and Vista is the ranking with a market share of 6.15 percent. The popularity of this version of Windows continues to fall every month. While the advantage of the "seven" is minimal: 42.76 percent against 42.52.

As of August this year, the market share of Windows 7 was 42.76 per cent, while in July the rate was 42.21 percent. In turn, the share of Windows XP operating system market has declined from 42.86 per cent in July to 42.52 percent in August.

The remaining software platforms follow the two leaders with a noticeable lag. After "seven" in XP and Vista is the ranking with a market share of 6.15 percent. The popularity of this version of Windows continues to fall every month. In fourth place is the "apple" OS X 10.7 Lion rating 2.45 percent, and the fifth of its predecessor 10.6 Snow Leopard (2,38 percent).

Keep in mind that Net Application gathers its statistics only on the Internet, while some computers, especially older, does not have access to the network. Thus, the real market situation may be somewhat different from the findings of the company. Apparently, the success of the obsolete Windows XP operating system is largely due to its habit of user interface. For eleven years, the logo XP for many became a fixture of the work for the PC.

Net Applications calculations differ from those of other large service statistics StatCounter, which puts Windows 7 on top of other operating systems for nearly a year. According to StatCounter, in June of this year, the share of Windows 7 in the world market exceeds 50%.

The final version of Windows 7 has appeared in October 2009. Over the three years of the "seven" Microsoft has sold over 600 million copies of operating systems. It is possible that Windows 7 will retain leadership in the market and after the release of Windows 8. The new operating system will be quite different from the previous versions. It is likely that many users will not want to learn how to use the OS meets their unusual "tile" interface.

Microsoft is currently finalizing a new operating system, Windows 8, designed for PCs and tablets. The new version of the platform will be adapted for use on devices with touch screen, and a special version of Windows RT can work on gadgets with energy-efficient ARM-processors. Thus, the company plans to compete with the leader of the tablet market - Apple iPad.
